I’m so excited to be starting this series, By the Numbers, again, this time highlighting my time here in the lovely Budapest.
It’s hard to believe we’ve been here for four weeks already, it has passed quite quickly, but I also feel like I hardly know this city at all! Moving to a new city (and immediately starting a time-consuming new job) is apparently not conducive for exploring. Still! I’m enjoying the city so far and I can’t wait to get to know Budapest a little bit more this month!
Here’s our first month in this new city–by the numbers!
ONE MONTH IN BUDAPEST: BY THE NUMBERS
TWO HOLIDAYS celebrated–Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day! E and I always keep Valentine’s Day low-key, but we had a coffee date at a new-to-us coffee shop, and made crepes at home.
And, I celebrated Galentine’s Day with some of my new co-workers! Yay!
FOUR DAYS of really intense fog that made the city feel so eerie and kind of awesome.
THREE WEEKS at my new job. I admit that I felt more prepared for this job than I should have–it’s a whole new world over here! I also expected to love it, since I’ve been dying to get back to teaching ever since we left Prague. Well, so far, it’s just been much more of an adjustment than I expected so…crossing my fingers that I love it soon?
TEN statues discovered in random parts of the city. Like…Mr. Reagan!? Budapest is all about the statues, I tell ya.
COUNTLESS views of Parlament. Oh how I love that building! I love getting surprised with views of it all over the city.
TWO DAYS of snow here in Budapest! We only got about an inch but it felt like more. Especially the kids–they were in full-out snow gear, attempting to make snowmen and snowballs. I guess this, sadly, means that snow isn’t very commonplace over here?
ONE MORNING walking around Pest, in the freezing wind. We were determined to explore one Sunday so we powered through! With coffee in hand.
THREE VISITS to the immigration office. Not bad, eh? E will be going again this week…hopefully to get the good news that he was approved for a visa! Keep your fingers crossed!!
HUNDREDS of umbrellas spotted during a parade outside of our building. Not entirely sure what the parade was supposed to be for, but the pouring down rain meant it really was a bunch of instruments huddled under umbrellas. Still, they had volume and it was quite celebratory!
ONE GORGEOUS SUNSET while walking home after work. Usually I’m walking home in the dark so I haven’t seen many sunsets lately. Luckily this one was beautiful!
How was your month? Do you find it hard to explore in the winter, too?

Sounds like a good first month even if it was freezing cold x

So fun! How times flies, I feel like you only just posted saying you’ve arrived. I know what you mean as I always feel much more compelled to go out and do lots in the warmth, and less so in the winter. Hope you get some real snow soon!!
AmyMacWorld says
Right? I was just thinking that I can’t believe it’s already been a month. Although I swear it was just yesterday you were hopping on a plane to Chile :). I hope you are doing great there! xo

Wow that fog – incredible! Budapest is so beautiful… I am definitely coming to visit sometime! I have been almost completely hibernating since I got back – between jet lag and an intense new job, it’s the easiest option. But I am excited to do a bit more exploring again this weekend 🙂
AmyMacWorld says
I hope you do visit!! We gotta meet somewhere new (and cool, 🙂 ). I hope you get out soon–I bet the adjustment between a new job, winter, and jet lag has been rough!!

I’m starting too – and have totally remembered why I love London so much 😀
AmyMacWorld says
It looks like you had a great month in London/New Zealand 🙂
