Nine months sounds so much longer than eight months, somehow. It sounds more significant, you know? It is the amount of time it takes to grow a child in a human. Just think! I could have done that by now. (No offense to any mothers out there, but for now I am happy with what this particular nine months signifies!).
Instead, I’ve just been living in Prague for that long, which in the grand scheme of things doesn’t seem very long. But I think when you’re living abroad, it’s a long time and I still feel lucky every day for this opportunity.
Now, let’s get to it, shall we? I give you…
NINE MONTHS IN PRAGUE: BY THE NUMBERS
HUNDREDS of flowers blooming all over Prague…and well-documented by me!
ONE DAILY REMINDER seen on my commute.
TWENTY-FOUR more lessons of my bilingual kindergarten class, one of my most entertaining lessons. This month we had fun with rhymes, I confiscated an alarmingly effective weapon that had been constructed in the five minutes we went outside to learn about the environment, and I attempted to corral them into the classroom long enough to impart my English wisdom.
TWO HOURS on the most perfect Sunday afternoon walking along the Vltava, soaking in the sunshine and reveling in the fairly empty Charles Bridge.
ONE new awesome discovery at the grocery store–wine out of a tap!
ABOUT TWELVE HOURS soaking up the view from our AirBnB in Budapest.
ONE AFTERNOON watching an unexpected yet awesome air show over the Danube.
SEVEN HOURS on an overnight bus. Possibly our most terrible decision in Europe, yet. But we survived!
FIFTY HOURS total in Budapest.
ONE WEEK exploring, catching up, and laughing until our stomachs hurt with two of our favorite people.
THREE DAYS showing off Prague to our pals between lessons. Showing off Prague to people from “back home” might be my new favorite activity. I’ve only been here nine months but I’m proud of this city, and I am always so pleased with other people love it, too.
TOO MUCH GOOD FOOD to even talk about! I was blown away by the cuisine in Hungary–even though Rick Steves says it has the best food in Eastern Europe, I was expecting it to taste similar to Czech cuisine (which isn’t a bad thing). Boy was I wrong! Those Hungarians know what to do with food. Of course, hitting our favorite spots in Prague with friends added to this flavor. And then…food in Ireland! This was the best food month.
^^goulash stew in Budapest.^^^topinky! Garlic toast in Praha. ^^Irish food. yum.
FOUR DAYS in Ireland. Although our Ireland trip wasn’t technically a part of the ninth month, I just had to throw in a few pictures from our long weekend in Dublin, with a day trip up to Northern Ireland. This is my second trip to Ireland and I am still itching to go back…that country gets its hooks into you!
