I’m so happy to announce that I was voted into the Top 100 International Exchange & Experience Blogs for 2015! Thank you, thank you to those who voted for me. I’m so honored! I put a lot of love and care into this blog and it’s nice to get some recognition.
Now, speaking of contests, I was asked to participate in one by writing a post outlining three things about my favorite city. I missed the competition (I definitely deserve that best blogger top spot), but I still got attached to the idea. I think my favorite city changes over time, but of course my current favorite is my current home, Praha!
The castle.
Ooooh I bet you know I was going to say that one! It’s the number one thing I take a picture of around here. I just love how it stands tall over the city, looming over the river. It’s so distinctive and gives Prague a unique skyline among the many gorgeous cities in Europe. I get a glimpse of it every day on my commute to school–spoiled, right? Whenever I’m feeling bad about anything, seeing that castle always gives me a boost.
The alleys.
The tiny, skinny roads winding through Prague, especially in Old Town, are a huge part of the city’s charm. They lead to cathedrals, to schools, to pubs, to flats, to government offices and strip clubs to McDonald’s. They add a charm and a mysterious feeling. If (I recommend when!) you come to Prague, make sure to wander the alleyways and admire the buildings and take yourself right back to medieval times.
The atmosphere.
Right away, I felt comfortable in Prague. The city is full of energy and people, but it also feels calm. I think part of the reason the energy is so great here is that the Czechs love their city and want to see it grow. Communism impacted Prague a lot, and it’s still recovering, and it’s lovely to see it brighten up. It’sΒ so easy to navigate, even when you don’t speak Czech. Also, the Czechs mind their own business. Sometimes their stoicism can confuse me, but it’s nice to know that I can sit on the tram and read, or take pictures of the castle, without feel like someone is going to talk to me or judge me (at least, I won’t be able to tell if they’re judging me).

We LOVE Prague! Only just last week I wrote about 7 reasons why you should visit Prague this year! Everything you mentioned is definitely on my list, too. π
AmyMacWorld says
I agree with all of your 7 reasons, too! It IS an affordable fairy-tale π
Cynthia says
Too true! I love the alleys soooo much…. unless I am ACTUALLY trying to get somewhere in Old Town and you are trying to keep your directional sense about you…. and then you go down an alley that’s going south-east when you wanted to go east…. pretty soon you are too far south…. ahhhh! But now I can just wander them happily π Congrats on your blog award!
AmyMacWorld says
Thank you!!! And haha, yes sometimes the alleys aren’t so fun when you actually have a destination π Still, it’s not a bad way to get lost π
Jess says
I’ve never been to Prague, but it looks like a beautiful city! I’m a sucker for cobblestones and alleys.
AmyMacWorld says
Prague is just FULL of those, so you would probably love it π
Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki says

Prague is so charming with it’s little alleys…and it’s castle π I feel so lucky to live here!!
Carly @ Let Us Wanderlust says
Congratulations! That’s fantastic, and so well deserved! Your space here is so lovely! Having that castle in your view each day is so special, and tiny alleyways are my favourite! The windier the better! X
AmyMacWorld says
Thank you, Carly! π And yes, the castle is so special–I feel so lucky to live here!
Christine @ A Keane Sense of A says

Congrats on the blog award! Prague is just so beautiful – how lucky you are to see that castle every day! That would be on the top of my Prague list too π And I love all the fun sculptures in the city, like the weird David ΔernΓ½ works.
AmyMacWorld says
Thank you, Sara! π The sculptures add so much interest and character to Prague–another thing I love is how it’s modern and classic all at the same time!

I loved Prague when I visited! Such a cool buzz!
My fave city is London and I love the history, that you can eat anywhere in the world at any time and the markets x
AmyMacWorld says
Aww yeah I love London too π it’s so historical yet beautiful and energetic!
Holly Hollyson says
Well done on the award Amy – that is just amazing! I have to say that the atmosphere is a big thing for me and it is the one thing that Hamilton lacks.
AmyMacWorld says
Yeah atmosphere really makes a difference, and it’s so hard to pinpoint why! And thank you, I’m very honored π
Mrs Chasing the Donkey says
Congrats on the award!! Love, love, love Prague. Been there twice and plan to go again if the opportunity strikes.
AmyMacWorld says
Thanks! π And yes to visiting Prague again! I really love this city!
Adelina // Pack Me To says
Yay congrats on making the list! π I never quite understood it with Prague. I’ve visited a 4 times but I just didn’t fall in love with it like others have it seems. I had a really bad first impression of it so maybe that has clouded my feelings with the city. Regardless, I can appreciate the beautiful architecture – especially that castle!
AmyMacWorld says
A first impression can really impact our feelings–as well as our attitude! i loved Prague at first, then didn’t, and now I love it again–so who knows? I think Prague is as far as people get in Eastern Europe, too, because I’ve heard a lot of other cities, like Budapest or Krakow or Ljubljana, are just as charming as Prague but lesser known.
AmyMacWorld says
And thank you! π
Adelina // Pack Me To says
I love Ljubljana – its a really beautiful city if a little quiet. Budapest I’m a bit biased towards and is an awesome city. Krakow is pretty cool too. I wish I had more time there to explore and eat my weight in pierogi.
AmyMacWorld says
I’m excited to visit all of those places–I’m going to Budapest in May and Ljublijana in July! Trying to squeeze in a trip to Krakow, too π I need some pierogi in my life!!
Kerri says
Prague really is a great city! I would to explore it some more!
AmyMacWorld says
I hope you get a chance to! It’s so great and so many things to see off the beaten path π
