I had one of my Instagram followers say, “Wow! Your life is so perfect! How lucky you are to travel!” and to be frank, this gave me pause. Don’t get me wrong, I thank my lucky stars on the daily for my opportunity and privilege. But, my life is not perfect and neither is travel!
So, to give you a glimpse of travel from all sides, I’m starting a new series, called Outtakes, for the pictures, stories and scenes that don’t make it into my normal postings!
Take 1 // Scarfing down pain au chocolat while waiting in a 2-hour line for the Louvre.
Take 2 // Going through security at the airport with a full water bottle. I’ve had to drink it really quickly on more than one occasion!
Take 3 // Sitting on the floor of the train for two hours because it’s too full. #glamorous
Take 4 // Eating an indecent amount of cheese over Christmas.
Take 5 // Drinking so much mulled wine there isn’t enough money for dinner.
Take 6 // Thinking a tiny mountain town will have any food for sale after six in the evening…therefore having leftover candy for dinner.
Take 7 // Booking one of the best Christmas destinations in Europe for October instead.
Take 8 // Thinking I can actually hold my hands still enough in freezing weather for a clear night picture.
Take 9 // Killing time on the train by taking a variety of selfies.
Take 10 // Snapping many photos of random, strange-to-me-things I see all over Prague.
Take 11 // Doing this on the Berlin Wall…awkward.
Take 12 // Taking many pictures of my feet…just because.
Take 13 // Becoming more obsessed with gnomes in Cologne than anyone knew.
Take 14 // Trying to be a photographer from a moving vehicle. It never works out but I always manage to convince myself that this time I will snap a perfect picture of the glorious landscape!

QUESTION:
Tell me…what are some of your outtakes from travel/life?

Linking up with Bonnie, Yalanda, Courtney and Cynthia for Travel Tuesday & Two for Tuesdays!
Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki says
Love this! I think the outtakes are my favorite part:) And lately I have had an obsession with taking lots of pictures of my shoes, I always think it looks so awesome but then when I look at them again it is not as artistic a shot that I thought it was ha. I need to work on my angle!
AmyMacWorld says
Haha I have so many pictures like that, too–not just feet ones! Lots of “artistic” shots where E is like “what is that a picture of?” and I’m not even sure, haha. Or dozens of pictures of the exact same shot…I think I have fear of missing out on these photos ops so I take a billion of the same to compensate, lol.
Nathalie says
What a great idea! Love these pictures 🙂 I always try to take pics from the car or train too… almost never works!
AmyMacWorld says
Thanks! And, no, it’s tricky business, but I always think this will be the time it will work, haha!
Carly @ Let Us Wanderlust says
Oh Amy how I love this post and this series idea! Amazing! I loved getting this little peak ‘behind the scenes’ into your amazing life! Xx
AmyMacWorld says
Thanks, Carly! It was a fun one to write…rather than searching for the best shot, it was fun to look for the funny ones or the ones that didn’t work out!
Polly says
Ugh I am also the ‘buy water immediately before going through security’ person. Always. So dumb.
TBH, though, not convinced this makes your life look any less idyllic 😉
AmyMacWorld says
Haha thanks, Polly. I will try to find some really terrible shots next time ;). And I make that mistake, too! I just have a fear of not having enough water (and people always say how important it is to stay hydrated on the plane!) so I forget about that pesky security.
Jessi @2feet1world says
Haha I do so many of these! The feet photos of course, and the moving transport photos too… one day we will nail them! Those gnomes were AMAZING hehe. Great series – can’t wait to read more 😀
AmyMacWorld says
I love your feet photos! They also go with your blog name so that automatically makes yours cuter and more relevant than mine haha. And yes I loved the gnomes so much! I wish I’d collected more of those cups!
Jessi @2feet1world says
Feet photos are awesome no matter what the link! 🙂
AmyMacWorld says
True, they always make me smile at least, so that’s what counts 🙂
Anna | slightly astray says
Ha! I love this idea. I always have so many pictures that never see the light of day because they don’t fit in anywhere. But I gotta say… Your outtakes are still pretty damn glamorous (except for the sitting on a train floor)!!
AmyMacWorld says
Haha I don’t know about “glamorous” but you’re right, I’m still pretty lucky 🙂 I had so much fun writing this post, though, and finding pictures that weren’t “the best!” thanks for reading 🙂
Yvonne says
Awesome idea! I always take pictures on moving vehicles, I guess it just becomes a habit when you see something beautiful outside you just hope it’ll be captured on camera just as wonderful even though it’s moving and tends to become a fail lol
AmyMacWorld says
Yes, that must be it! We’re so used to trying to get photos of the beautiful thing we’re seeing we forget to consider the moving part, haha. Even though I know it probably won’t turn out I can’t help but try!
Holly Hollyson says
Great idea! I want some mulled wine right now!
AmyMacWorld says
Thanks 🙂 and me too!!
Yalanda_Meshell says
Doing things on the Berlin Wall. I like that! This is a great idea Amy!
AmyMacWorld says
I was trying to make a thoughtful pose and E just said I looked like I was about to puke (which I thought was a bit of an exaggeration, lol). And thanks, it’s a fun post to write! It was kind of nice searching through my photos for the crappy ones rather than the best ones 🙂
Kerri says
I loved this! I could be quite tempted to make a similar post, I already enjoy putting outfit outtakes together, but I never thought about travel outtakes!
AmyMacWorld says
Yes it’s fun! I love the outfit outtakes idea too…but I think most of my outfits might be outtakes lol 😉
Cynthia says
Niiiice list, I love it.
My outtake from the past week would probably be when some gal was wandering around in my building early in the morning and approached me as I exited my front door in Czech. I said I only speak English or German, and decided (because I thought maybe she was a new neighbor) to ask if she spoke English. She said “only a little”, and then went into the doctor’s office on the bottom floor. Then I realized I was grilling some random Czech (who isn’t my neighbor) whether or not they speak English in their own country. Awkwardddd
AmyMacWorld says
Haha I love that story! Mostly because I can completely relate lol. I love imagining her reaction…”why do you care if I speak English, I just want to find the doctor’s office!” haha. I’ve had a lot of encounters lately where my usual response of “mluvíte anglicky?” to stop them from babbling Czech at me have been answered with a “ne” but persistent questioning anyway. Maybe my Czech lessons are paying off and my accent is so good they just can’t believe I don’t really speak Czech at all 😉
Alanna @ Alanna and Co says
I love this idea of outtakes! I actually LOVE take 8. So pretty!
AmyMacWorld says
Thanks 🙂 I admit, in Europe it’s hard to have “bad” outtakes haha but I was just trying to infuse some realism into the photos and blog posts!
Camila says
hahaha love this! blogging shows such a good part of our lives and it’s so not true that it’s perfect!
AmyMacWorld says
yes! So true. I leave so much out so I’m trying to show more…but I still prefer sharing fun, good stuff more than anything else!
