This week’s travel prompt for Travel Tuesday with Bonnie, Kaelene, Sammy & Van…
is to share your travel bucket list!
I was particularly excited about this prompt because I love lists, like love. My day doesn’t really feel complete unless I’ve crossed something off some sort of list. I even have a category on this blog dedicated to lists. Obsessive much?
However, when I sat down to write this post, I realized that to share my entire travel bucket list would take way too long, and, let’s face it, the list grows on the daily (pretty much every time I go online or talk to someone I find a new place to add to that list). That’s just impractical for a blog post, am I right? (You’re welcome. Although you can read my life to-do list here, my places list here, and my 30 by 30 list here, if you’re interested).
Instead, I’m sharing a few of my top travel adventures I’d like to have. While traveling anywhere is it’s own adventure, these are the trips I’ve always wanted to do that involve time, extensive travel, or some kind of unique activity.
Ski in the Alps.
Ever since I visited Switzerland many moons ago, I’ve wanted to go back to the Alps in the winter to see the beautiful, snowy peaks and to ski down one!
Scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef.
As someone who loves to scuba dive, the Great Barrier Reef has always been one of my top destinations. It seems like the ultimate diving destination (although that’s just to my limited knowledge). But, look at those colors!
Ride the Trans-Siberian Railway.
This railway, which can take you from Beijing, China, all the way to Moscow, Russia (via Mongolia!) has always been a dream of mine. It’s pretty expensive and not a fast trip, but someday I would love to carve out a large chunk of time to take this train and watch China, Mongolia and Russia pass by out of the window.
Drink a beer at Oktoberfest.
I mean, look at this girl. This picture says it all! Oktoberfest looks like one big party I’d love to visit. I’ve heard it’s pricey, though, so maybe just for a day, and maybe just for a few beers.
Walk on the Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver, Canada.
For some reason this long suspension bridge in British Columbia has always been on my list. It’s just a bridge, but it seems so magical crossing the lush forests and appearing out of the mists.
Stay overnight in a castle in Ireland.
Who doesn’t want to stay the night in a real-life, ages-old castle? Ireland is full of castles, and since I found the country so charming, I think I would feel the same about staying in one of their castles. (Not that I would say no to staying the night in a castle, anywhere).
Sail in the Caribbean.
It sounds like such a dream to sail through the clear blue waters of the Caribbean without a care in the world.
Ride a hot air balloon over Cappadocia, Turkey.
It seems like almost an otherworldly experience to float over the strange, alien landscape in this part of Turkey.
Go on a photo safari in Africa.
I would go on a photo safari even if it meant an elephant hugged my car off the road.
Spend a year traveling around the world.
This is a BIG dream that I hope to make happen, someday! I would love to spend even longer than a year just gallivanting around the globe. I have so much I want to see, this seems like the only option. Maybe someday when I get paid to travel.
I’d love to hear…what are some of your top travel adventures, either that you’ve done or want to do?
Van @ Snow in Tromso says
Travelling the world, spending a night in a castle and taking the Trans-Siberian Railway are definitely on my list too! I’ve always wanted to visit Russia and also Ireland so these activities would be perfect! Not to mention how awesome it would be to visit Australia and Canada and ohhh just every continent!! 😉

I hear you! I had to control this list a lot because I just want to go everywhere! 🙂

What a great list, the hot air balloon ride over Turkey looks so amazing and a photo safari has been on my list for ages and ages! I’ve actually gone scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef…I really loved it, but I have to be honest. The colors didn’t seem as vivid as they always do in photos!
AmyMacWorld says
Interesting! I felt that way the first time I scuba dived. Everything is a lot bluer under there! And it’s a lot harder to see the animals and plants than I thought. But I’m glad it was still amazing 🙂
Holly Nelson says
Love the hot air balloon ride idea! I have always wanted to go up in a balloon. My oh wants to go on a safari in Africa, so if that is high on his list, it is also high on mine!!
AmyMacWorld says
Haha I hear ya! My bf has a few things on his list that I probably wouldn’t care about doing, but it would be fun to do them with him! Can’t let him have all the fun 😉
Sammy @ Days Like This says
This is the best list! Trans-Siberian Railway is on mine as well! I have been to the Great Barrier Reef and it was the best. I would definitely love to go back again though. I was supposed to go to Oktoberfest this year, but the timing just didn’t work so I will have to go next year instead 😉
AmyMacWorld says
After looking into Oktoberfest I’m not sure if we will make it this year…it’s not cheap! But someday! 🙂 and I loved this prompt–so many new ideas to add to my list!
Meredith says
The Trans-Siberian Railway and the African photo shoot are definitely on my list as well! The hot air balloon in Turkey sounds really cool – I’d never thought about it, but will have to check it out now. This link-up has added so many great ideas to the list 🙂
AmyMacWorld says
I agree! This was a great prompt and I always find a new travel blogger to follow during Travel Tuesday!
Camila says
Love love love your list! I love that you made a list of adventures not just countries! I want to make one too! I love every bit of this list (I did the safari yay!), they are all must-experience things for sure!
AmyMacWorld says
I agree (well obviously since they are on my list ha). I have a list of places but there are always things you want to do in those places too, am I right?
Kaelene Spence says
Spending a year traveling the world sounds wonderful to me!
AmyMacWorld says
It’s the ultimate dream for me!
Natalie Joseph says
These are all brilliant bucketlist items! Travelling for a year would be my ultimate 🙂
AmyMacWorld says
Me too !!!! 🙂
Amye Mae says
Yikes, that elephant!
I love that you have “spending a year to travel the world” as a bucket list item. I definitely agree – there is so much that I want to see, and so an item on my list should be to do the same.
AmyMacWorld says
Haha I know. I thought the picture was funny but if I was in that car I would be TERRIFIED. And I feel like I actually need 10 years to constantly travel to see everything but I’ll start with a year 😉
