Hi! How has your week been? It’s been another rough one around here but now, today, is Valentine’s Day!
I’m not a huge lover of the V-Day, following right after Christmas, but I love love love candy, and chocolate, and flowers, and getting/giving presents. So, I can’t hate on it too much :).
Also, since this is my blog, I have to give a shout out to my love this Valentine’s Day. (Hey, E!) Today I am joining a link-up with fellow bloggers (am I allowed to call myself that yet?) The Daily Tay and The Life of Bon.
When I first considered the question (“why we work”) I of course thought of my main squeeze. And then, as usual when I’m asked any sort of question, my mind went blank. I couldn’t think of one reason that we work except that we kind of like each other. Of course, a good night’s sleep later and I couldn’t stop coming up with ideas. Funny how that works. (Spoiler alert! It’s a doozy of a post. But also adorable, if I do say so in my complete and total bias).
Without further ado, I give you…
WHY WE WORK.
We work because we accidentally discovered Chick-fil-a together and wish we never had because it’s kind of evil. But damn that stuff is good.
We work because we cook together. He chops things and I sauté them, because I hate to chop and he prefers to chop. Sometimes, we just cook Annie’s mac-n-cheese together too. We love that stuff the most, and we’re on a quest to find the best in Denver (and, maybe someday, the best in the world?…)
We work because, when I wake up late and he makes me coffee because I’m out of time, he always puts cocoa in it, too.
We like nothing more than snuggling in bed on the weekends.
We work because we love to stay in and do nothing together. Sometimes, we like to go out too.
We work because we both love nothing more than exploring new places. So much so, we want to spend at least a year traveling the world.
We work because have our favorite shows and we always watch them together (Modern Family!). We work because he indulges my love of Harry Potter and does things like pose on bridges for me:
We work because we both like doing separate things on our computers…but together (me, writing/blogging, him, programming).
We like to take road trips and listen to books on tape.
We both want to decorate our house with maps and cool stuff we’ve picked up abroad. But we also want to be nomadic, too, and have lots of houses.
We write postcards to each other wherever we go. And always bring little gifts back from wherever we visit. We even have little collections we’ve gathered of places we’ve been together, too.
We work because he always reads my blog, more than anyone else I think, and because I always watch his GoPro movies and I really think they’re cool (although the one where he crashed into a tree while snowboarding I did not like so much).
We work because he sends me puppy pictures all day, and lots of other cute pictures, just to make me smile. I send him lots of links about how to save money and where we should travel, because he likes information.
We work because we love dogs more than anything and spend more time with my parents’ dogs than with my parents when we visit. We also always park near the pet store in the mall, even if it’s at the opposite end of where we actually need to go, just to visit the puppies.
Even when we never see each other because I am always at work or at school, or he goes away on work trips, we talk a lot, and most of the time we wish we were together. It’s just kind of better.
We write notes to each other in the shower with our fancy shower crayons.
On Christmas Eve, we watch Die Hard and Love Actually. You know, to get the best of both worlds. They are both Christmas movies.
We work because we talk and talk and never get tired of talking (well maybe he does…), but sometimes we can be quiet too. We even have our own dorky made-up language that would be embarrassing if we used it with anyone else.
We work because sometimes we use the same shampoo, because it tingles and it’s the best.
We like to take walks in the park, and drive together, and go look at the mountains together.
Most of all, we like to go places together, and we want to go everywhere together. There are places I’ve been I want to show him, and places he’s been he wants to show me.
When we visit both of our hometowns, we have favorite stops (i.e. mostly restaurants because we’re obsessed with food) that we always have to hit.
When he had surgery on his mouth and had to sleep upright on the couch, I slept out there with him. We had so much fun having a slumber party out there we did it for about a week.
Because even though I’m messy, and I hate cleaning more than anything ever probably, and my clothes pile up into a mountain regularly, and my schedule is so busy I never have time to cook, and I’m needy, and I always have to pee in the middle of the night and end up waking him up in the process of getting to the bathroom, he tells me he loves living with me almost every day.
When our parking lot is full and we have to park far away, we will walk together (and sometimes he parks for me, because he’s an angel like that). We work because he shows me how much I mean to him every single day and tells me I’m beautiful even though I’m usually a disaster. We work because even though he’s kind of furry I think he’s adorable.
We work because we try. We try all the time to be there for each other, and make each other happy, and make our relationship fun. Sometimes, we have to try really hard, but we never give up.
Pretty much, we’re best friends, drinking buddies, there for each other, inspiration for each other, and traveling partners. And that is why we work.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Pass on the loving to yourself, to your loved ones, your pets, or strangers…because we always need a little more loving to pass around. Give a shout out to whoever you work with, too! 🙂
(Back to regularly non-mushy programming on Sunday!)
XOXO

Just found your blog through the link-up and am really excited that I did! You two seem like such a great couple. Spending at least a year traveling together is also on my list of musts.

Thank you so much for commenting and reading! I am just starting to join link-ups and I love the blogs I am finding–Including yours! You’re a great writer and I can’t wait to read more 🙂 And I agree, I would spend about five years just on the road if I could!
