As you may remember from my Christmas Bucket List, one of my wishes was to visit the tiny mountain town of Georgetown, Colorado, for their annual Christmas market.
Georgetown was founded in 1859 as a mining town. Mining isn’t exactly booming in Colorado anymore, and these old mining towns reflect it–but Georgetown has played up the historically charming town to decent results. The market was packed! (and rightly so, as it was apparently voted one of the best Christmas markets in America!)
Just like the town, the market was small, but charming! Unfortunately, we didn’t pick the most “Christmasy” day to visit–it was a sunny, balmy 45 degrees out! To be fair, though, the weekend before would have been 2 degrees…that’s just how the weather works here in Colorado!
It was fun to hear the children caroling, and watch their little Saint Lucia procession (although I had no idea what it was at the time–we looked it up!) and stroll around with some cider.
You can’t forget to make a stop at their Christmas Shoppe! The greeter was in a charming period costume (I snuck a picture–see below!) and the place was crowded and decked out for the holidays. (Maybe it’s decked out all year, though?) We added one ornament to our collection–a gold-encrusted aspen leaf to remind us of our time here in Colorado. (And because fall is my favorite, and the aspens here are killer, if you remember from this post). {all photos were taken by my IPhone…because I forgot my fancy camera! But you get the idea :)}
