My life in Colorado is mostly filled with school, internship and work at the moment, but I try to get out several times a month into the nearby mountains. This helps scratch my itchy travel feet, a little (although as you can tell, it’s kind of constant in my life).
My favorite little day trip from Denver, at least in the fall, is a small mountain town called Frisco. Frisco is next to the Dillion Reservoir (since Colorado is the high desert, most lakes are reservoirs, I’m discovering), which is pretty all year round.
I’m not going to lie–my main motivation behind driving about 1.5 hours to Frisco, besides the changing leaves, is the Butterhorn Cafe & Bakery. Although I was hankering for their corn chowder this time around, it was Tomato Basil day, which I wasn’t feeling, so I ended up eating a delicious scramble. The scramble was good, but again, let’s be real, their pastries are killer.
Especially the swiss roll.
This time, though, I settled for a cookie as we had plans to wander the town before driving back to the city. Colorado fall really amazes me–those yellow trees you see in the photos above are aspens. I kind of almost cry every time I see them. Something about the way they look like bright spots of color amongst the dense green, effectively changing the landscape for a brief and beautiful moment, makes me feel in awe.
And mushy, obviously.
