And just like that, the third month has come and gone! Everyone agrees that the first six months of moving to a new place is the biggest adjustment period, and I am on board with that–but I also think the first three months can be the toughest.
The third month in Budapest was absolutely wonderful, though. I feel much more comfortable at my job, although it’s not easy: the kids are starting to realize they’re supposed to listen to me and some of them might even like me. We got two trips abroad under our belts, also! Add that to the absolutely insanely lovely spring weather (sometimes a little too warm–it’s only April, people!) and life in Budapest is looking sunny indeed.
THREE MONTHS IN BUDAPEST: BY THE NUMBERS
ONE celebration for our six-month anniversary! A brunch celebration because that’s our favorite kind. Also, excuse my exhausted face–my teaching schedule leaves me looking tired all.the.time.
TWO HOURS dying eggs with the kiddos in celebration of Easter.
FIVE DAYS in Greece! I gave you a taster of our trip to Greece here but it was basically a dream, despite the fact that so many things didn’t go as planned or went wrong.
THREE DAYS on Santorini. Aka heaven on Earth. I’ve been trying to restrain myself from posting pictures from Santorini constantly on every social media channel and texting them to everyone I know. It’s that beautiful.
48 HOURS in Vienna on a spontaneous getaway. We decided to go Thursday evening and left Friday afternoon! It’s only about a two-hour train ride from Budapest so it’s nice for a quick little getaway.
ONE gorgeous library visited. The State Hall Library at the Hofburg in Vienna is a must if you visit the city–it’s gorgeous and what is better than a library?!
FIVE HOURS in classy cafés in Vienna. Vienna has some of the best cafés in Europe–great coffee and great cakes and so atmospheric. I like Café Sperl, Demel for the cakes, and Café Central–touristy but unmistakably Viennese.
MORE explorations in this lovely city of Budapest. Now that the sun is out so much it’s so easy to take a wander after work and see where I end up.
FOUR outside excursions with my class. Getting outside with 18 rowdy first graders and letting them just run is so helpful in getting through the day.
TONS of spring blossoms found all over the city.
THREE new brunch spots found in the neighborhood–for a city that doesn’t really do brunch, I’ve been able to find it when I want it.
TWO stops at my new favorite ice cream place, Gelarto Rosa–it’s as delicious as it is pretty! (One stop on the sunniest Sunday ever, one stop on a balmy week night evening, I’m not sure it gets much better than that).
ONE new Instagram hashtag! Are you joining in with #meandthegreatworld yet??!
How was your month? Have you explored near or far?
